Below are some highlights:. A: Not through universities and colleges. Not like this. CCM does have a student exchange program with another university in Brazil, but it is also only a 2 week program and very different in terms of the culture than the Spoleto CCM opportunity.
There are several other schools that have a student exchange program specifically for jazz or programs that are study abroad programs for jazz players only. There is no other program like this where jazz students are studying alongside classical music students as well.
A: For the most part, it has been extremely positive and people are genuinely excited to see us perform. The jazz sound, especially the smaller combo stuff we are playing, is very unique to this culture and people truly seem to love what they are hearing.
Instrumental music in general seems more respected and appreciated in Europe and the audiences want to experience chamber music and jazz music in the same evening. Also, we are able to interact with other students here more than we are in the typical university setting.
Musicians are not as segregated by section or type of music they typically play and we are able to hang out more. It is pretty sweet. Q: What is the best part about this festival for you?
A; Besides the fact that we get to play everyday and are really growing as musicians? The food. The food here is incredible. Also, Spoleto is exactly how I imagined Italy would be, it is like a fairy tale. The city is beautiful and the people are so friendly. It is nice to be able to somewhat communicate with people who speak an entirely different language after only one class. A: There are so many big name jazz players who come to Europe for jazz festivals.
The jazz festivals in Umbria and specifically Perugia would be great opportunities for collaboration and to see some of the jazz greats in action. Perhaps even set up some masterclasses with them? Now that would be pretty sweet! Gian Carlo Menotti's house in Spoleto, Italy. A special thing happened last Sunday in Spoleto. Sign me up! Blog at WordPress. Share this: Twitter Facebook.
