Anyway i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what may be causing this, maybe just pitch some things that might be triggering it, i might be able to solve it myself with the right trigger :. By the way, the network consists of 2 laptops both running vista and 2 desktops both running xp. On one of the XP machines, click start then type cmd in the run box and press enter.
That will amnogst other things show if it is set to dhcp ir static ip. You will then need to …. On your router, you need to check that it is set to dhcp. It should also keep an event log, see if any problems show up on that. Also, the next time it happens, make a note of the time and date then have a look in the event viewer of one of the affected machines to see if any errors correspond.

You're trying to visit a URL that doesn't currently exist on the web. Most likely, a member posted a link a long time ago to a web page that has since been removed.
Also, the line " There were two pertinent lines in Hosts: Re-booted, tried opening a browser, no luck opening any pages. I then re-named the hosts file Xhosts and rebooted. Opened a web browser but no joy - "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Also, when I try to open the network sharing center, there is nothing in the open window. I assume that re-naming the hosts file defeats network connectivity - I'll reverse the changes. The " localhost" line is the ipv6 equivalent of " As Seen On.

Thanks for your feedback. I gave a few different sites in my original post, above. The worst one at the moment is OkCupid. I have reached the site using a library computer with no issue, so it doesn't appear to be an issue with the site. I am running Windows 10, bit, on an HP laptop.
I have the same question 1. Report abuse. Also it doesn't seem to matter if the user is using Firefox or IE, it happens with both.
At first my dad thought it was something with cable company he connects through so he called them up and had them run all sorts of diagnostics and what not but they came up with nothing. Then he thought that maybe it was something that might have been installed on all of the Vista pc's that just wasn't compatible with Vista really so he went to each of the three pc's and uninstalled everything but the OS itself.
That didn't fix the problem. That's when he called me up and asked if I had any suggestions. My only suggestion was that maybe it was one of the few Windows updates that has happened since then.
For some reason, however, my dad does not want to uninstall those updates to see if that fixes the problem. So basically, I'm wondering if anyone else has had any problems with Vista and accessing web pages like what my dad has been having. If you've fixed the problem I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how you did it.
My dad now wants me to help him format these 3 pc's and reinstall everything thinking that will fix the problem. I consider that a last resort sort of thing.
Not to mention that he shouldn't have to since one of the pc's is brand, spanking new since he just got the pc a few days before all this started happening. Joined Nov 30, Messages 3, I've got the same problem going on right now. It happened a while ago, and I ended up just reformatting.
